Rev. Steven Mathews, Pastor
Steve Mathews came to United Baptist Church in 2014. He has been in ministry since 1997, serving as pastor of churches in Florida and North Carolina. He has also served on the faculty of several colleges and seminaries.
A native of Americus, Georgia, Steve was licensed and ordained to the ministry by Cheek Memorial Baptist Church, and has been commissioned to military chaplaincy by the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Steve’ passion is teaching the Bible. Sunday morning sermons are encouraging and insightful. Sunday night and Wednesday night Bible studies focus on book-by-book teaching, explaining the timeless message of the Bible, and applying it to life in our modern world.
Steve is also an author. His books include Holy Habits: Spiritual Disciplines for Christian Living, New Testament Handbook, Come Follow Me: Reflections on the Markan Jesus, and Christian Fasting: Biblical and Evangelical Perspectives.
Steve met Dawn in 1996 at Florida Baptist Theological College, and they married in 1997. They graduated together. Dawn serves as a mission leader who has taken numerous mission teams to Guatemala, Kenya, Malaysia, Turkey, and Armenia.
